My Favourite Podcasts

As a commuter spending up to 2 hours a day travelling to/from work, I have a lot of time to kill listening to music and podcasts. I can’t really read anything as I walk, so unless I want to walk into a lamppostĀ or oncoming traffic, my hearing is the only sense I can titillate with that time, and that may be the worst thing I’ve ever written.

Whilst these are my exact headphones and my laptop, the image is not mine.

Here are some of the best podcasts I’ve been listening to over the last few years:

Opening with probably the most famous podcast out there, Serial tells a true story in each of it’s two seasons. Seaon one focuses on the confusing investigation into what actually happened in the case of Hae Min Lee’s murder, did Adnan Syed really do it or was he falsely convicted?

Season two focuses on the disappearance and imprisonment of Bowe Bergdahl, and what drove him to do just what he did.

If you’re up for some gripping investigative journalism and questions you’ve never considered, Serial is for you.

By the creators of Serial, S-Town walks down a completely different path. A path that will completely shock loyal Serial listeners and newcomers alike. The ‘shit town’ we’re centered on experiences a murder, and one man wants to investigate it, however another death changes the course of this podcast and the stories of many forever.

Two comedians, Elliott Morgan and Lee Newton (known for their work on the now defunct YouTube channel SourceFed) talk about what’s going on in the world, what’s going on in their life, and whatever else crops up in the most relaxed and unprofessional-in-the-most-professional-way podcast.

Hosted by professional nerd Chris Hardwick, Nerdist has hundreds of episodes with hundreds of guests, if you’re at all into what is considered ‘nerd’ culture, there’s gonna be a huge amount of episodes for you.

This one is my personal favourite podcast of all time. My Dad Wrote a Porno is pretty self explanatory, a guy’s Dad wrote a porno, he reads it aloud with two friends and we all laugh at how ridiculously terrible, yet genius, it is.

With a book and a live show (that left me with pain in my abs from laughing) already in their repertoire, it’s time to catch up with the podcast making people vomit with giggles. And also disgust. Actually, it’s probably all from disgust.

Hosted by YouTube sensation Tyler Oakley and his friend Korey Kuhl, Psychobabble dives into everything popculture once a week, with some focusing on ‘Queens’ and advice. Psychobabble is like having two friends say everything you’ve wanted to, and you don’t even have to contribute. Perfect.

Two women are fascinated with murder. And they’ll tell you all about a murder themed for the week, family killing family, different types of homicide, murderers hiding in plain sight, the list goes on for almost 100 episodes and counting.

With two new murders a week, and a contribution from listener’s about their creepy hometown murders, My Favorite Murder delivers.

YouTuber Grace Helbig welcomes a new guest each week, often from the internet but nowadays that really isn’t a prerequisite, and they chat, they ask questions from Twitter and the guests have to describe a time they shit their pants in three words or phrases. Mine would be herbal tea, futon, John Green.

Talk the Line chats to different celebrities about their interests and obsessions that might never come up in other interviews or conversations. Whether it’s an obsession with Cornwall, magic or even podcasts, it’s all relevant and it’s call covered in a neat hour long episode.

What are your favourite podcasts? Hit me up, I’m always looking for new things to fill my mornings!
