Welcome to INTERVIEWED, a series of discussions and chats with creators of all kinds.
Today we’re joined by my friend Carl from A Bloke’s Eye View, a straight talking blogger who talks about all things men’s fashion and lifestyle in his own way!
D: What do you do as a creator?
C: Around two and a half years ago I created my own little space on the internet
http://Www.ablokeseyeview.co.uk where I could talk about different subjects, especially ones which I love. The main subjects I cover are fashion, lifestyle, tech and male grooming.
I believe I have a unique and original writing style which is always 100% honest.
D: Brilliant, you do have a unique writing tone indeed. What about the gent behind the blog?
C: Well, I’m Carl a 35 year old husband and a dad of two and for my full time job I’m an automatic door engineer, which I’ve done since I left school around 16 years ago.
It’s not glamorous but it pays the bills!
D: I didn’t know you could specialise in being an automatic door engineer! Very cool job title.
C: Haha in all fairness I’m one of the best.
D: Of course, goes without saying!
So what was it that got you to start blogging?
C: My wife @MarriedtoaGeek1 had already been blogging around a year, I could see how much she enjoyed it and always mentioned that there were a lack of male bloggers around so I thought fuck it I’m going to start one. Her blog is here.
I’m still trying to work out who the geek she is married too!
D: Maybe one day you’ll figure it out
How is it being married to a fellow blogger, good to have someone there who always understands what you’re on about?
C: It’s good, especially when I get to go our to review a restaurant with her and I don’t have to write about it.
Also she’s very helpful when it comes to spelling and grammar, mine’s shocking so she will always go over my posts before I publish them.
D: That’s a great perk!
What do you enjoy the most about being a blogger?
C: I’m kind of struggling with the enjoyment at the moment, there seems to be so much crap going on in the blogging world, I’ve taken a step back for it all just to clear my head.
I’m not going to lie though! I do enjoy the opportunities I get, I just need to clear this little writing block and come back with some awesome content, the sort of content that I’ve always been know for writing.
So watch this space, great posts incoming!
D: Very fair point, lately there has been a lot of bots, a lot of drama, a lot of people attacking others – when you just want to create cool things it’s hard to be around it all.
What do you think could be improved within the blogging community?
C: I’m not too sure to be honest, maybe that people should respect that not all opinions are the same and they should not be shot down if they don’t agree with it.
Some people can be real assholes.
D: Have you got a favourite post of your’s, or a moment you’re particularly proud of?
C: I’m quite proud of all my posts because growing up I wasn’t to interested in school, I’ve only ever read one book which is The Hobbit!
Like I mentioned above my grammar and spelling is shocking, so starting a blog for me was something out of the norm, but two and a half years I’m still here doing my thing!
But of I had to choose one post I’d have to say this post, where I talk about how comfort is key for me and how to be a fashion blogger you don’t have to walk around in fancy outfits all of the time!
D: That’s well cool, you should be proud of it all.
Are there any creators you look up to or find influence your content?
C: I did when I started blogging but they were the ones who just got called out for using bots!
I don’t thing anybody influences me or my content, I think that’s why some of my content is quite random.
I do pride my self on that all of my content is 100% honest and original and I hope that comes across to my readers.
D: It’s a shame when people succumb to the bots!
Any future plans for your blog or anything we should keep an eye out for?
C: I just want to be more consistent with posts and possibly publish 2 a week.
Also I will be writing a few gaming related posts, which will be quite cool to do.
D: Looking forward to the gaming stuff, what are you a fan of?
C: I mainly do a lot of PC gaming, I love survival games.
D: If you’re into Harry Potter, what’s your Hogwarts house?
C: HufflePuff just because it has the coolest name
Favourite movie of all time?
D: Solid choice and finally, any favourite music artists/bands of all time?
C: In my last year of school I was at a low point for some personal reasons but music helped me pull through it, it kind of took my mind off of things.
The artist I listened to most was TQ, you may remember his hit song West Side?
Well I was lucky enough to go and meet him last year which was amazing!
Of course, check out his blog here!
