Welcome to INTERVIEWED, a series of interviews with creators of all kinds.

Today we’re joined by Robyn of Midnight and Lace, a true fashion icon for all of us who love to wear black on black year round.

D: What is it that you do online as a creator?

R: I run a fashion and lifestyle blog over at Midnight and Lace. I’m mainly a fashioner blogger now (I think?!) but I love using it as my space to talk about things I’m interested in like embracing the unique and all things a bit out of the ordinary!

D: What about the woman behind the blog?

R: Well I’m just coming to the end of my degree and hopefully will be graduating in the summer as a primary school teacher. I love having blogging as my hobby and I spend most of my time either creating, editing or doing something to do with my blog! If I’m not blogging I’m usually eating or sleeping!

D: That’s awesome, I didn’t know you were going to be a teacher!

What inspired you to start creating content?

R: I’m really shy and growing up I suffered with social anxiety and developed really low self-esteem and confidence. I always found I didn’t fit anywhere because of how I dressed and who I was, I was often teased for being “weird”. So for me blogging was my way of being myself and having a place where I could embrace being weird and a little bit unusual. It’s helped me to accept myself.

D: Everyone in the blogging community is so individual that everyone’s differences sorta are what we all have in common! If that makes any sense.

R: Exactly! I love how in the community everyone is accepted! We all embrace and accept what makes us different. It’s such a lovely little family to be a part of!

D: It really is!

What has kept you making content for so long?

R: I love the creative process! From when I get to sit down and plan post ideas or outfit shoots, to shooting the photography and editing the photos! I feel like blogging is such a rewarding thing to do! To have people tell you that they love your jacket or that they agree with what you say or that one of your posts made their day and made them feel a little bit better about themselves!

Every single view or comment I get amazes me because I never thought anyone would be interested in my little blog! It really gives you the motivation to keep going, even on days when you think it would be easier to just quit! Having people like your content is such an insane feeling, so I guess that’s what’s kept me creating and will keep me creating!

D: Is there something you particularly love about the creative process more than the rest?

R: Hmmm, I think I love the planning of ideas the most! Just getting to write down everything that’s in my brain and trying to make something out of all the crazy ideas I have! I love planning different outfit posts- they’re definitely my favourite type of post!

D:Is there any post that stands out in particular to you?

R: Awh it’s hard to pick just one! I’ve had so much fun creating some. I guess my favourite so far has to be the more gothic outfits like my Addams family posts! I’ve also been planning a new series of outfit posts which will be inspired by a different song, character or music artist which has been really fun to plan and try to bring to life!

D: I loved those, they were so much fun!

R: Awh thank you! I’m glad you like them!

D: Have you had any opportunities because of your blog?

R: I’ve worked with a few smaller brands and I’ve recently done a collaboration for Satsuma Loans Spring Campaign! Not a great deal but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?

D:That’s awesome!

Is there anything you dislike about blogging?

R: Hmm I feel like recently there has been a lot of negativity and drama in the blogging community. I feel like there is a lot of pressure and competition in the blogging world and it would be incredible if we could just all support each other and be happy for everyone’s success.

D: Couldn’t agree more.

Who are the biggest influences on what you create or who inspires you the most?

R: I really admire bloggers like Jess (Heart Shaped Bones), Jess (foxxtailz) and Zoe London! I love their individual style and how insanely hard they work!  They’re all bloggers I really look up to!

Content wise am I aloud to say I take inspiration from Wednesday and Lydia?! Haha they’re my ultimate goth icons so they inspire a lot of my outfit posts!

D: 3 amazing creators and 2 amazing characters.

Any future plans for Midnight and Lace?

R:World domination of course! Haha!

To just continue creating content I’m really proud of, maybe work with some brands I admire, win a blog award? (a girl can dream!) and just to show people that embracing what makes them different is pretty damn cool!

D: What’s your Hogwarts house?

R: Oh I’m definitely a Slytherin!

D: Do you have a favourite film of all time?

R: Ooh that’s hard between The Addams Family or Beetlejuice! But I think it has to be The Addams Family!

D: Such a classic.

Finally, do you have any favourite music artists/bands?

R: Paramore are my ultimate favourite I’m so glad they’re back! I feel like I have a wide range in music! At the minute I love listening to Melanie Martinez, Bring Me The Horizon, Lady Gaga and who doesn’t love old school Destiny’s Child!?
