Welcome to #INTERVIEWED, a series of discussions with creators of all kinds. Today we’re joined by the Cardiff’s creative, Pharell loving fashion blogger: Ryan Mules.
D: What do you do online?
R: The main things I do online usually revolve around blogging. I’ll read other people’s blogs, try and form new content or if I’m feeling short of ideas I’ll trawl through Tumblr to try and kick start my brain. Obviously YouTube is the best thing on the internet so I spend countless hours lurking in the dark depths of YouTube.
D: And what do you do as a creator?
R: The term creator feels weird haha. My main outlet is my blog which has progressed a lot over the last year or so. I used to write for a few online magazines which improved my writing skills and has thus improved my blog. I’m also trying to get better at my photography as it’s something I’ve always wanted to get a grip on. Luckily I’m surrounded by lots of talented photographers who are willing to help which is cool. I like the idea of a YouTube channel but I think i should be a bit more interesting first!
D: I think you’re more than a interesting enough!
What’s you’re favourite part of being a blogger?
R: My favourite part of blogging is just having somewhere to truly be myself and have an outlet. A lot of people get into blogging for free stuff, events etc. but there’s so much more to it! Giving myself this outlet has allowed me to meet some really awesome people online too.
D: Your outlook is a healthier one to have. Do you have anything that you dislike or find difficult about blogging?
R: I wouldn’t say I have any dislikes with regards to blogging, it’s mostly the social media side of it! It’s almost impossible to get real growth on Instagram these days, people are willing to sell their souls for the most ridiculous free products which has a knock on effect to everyone else.
And don’t get me started on bots!
D: I’m seeing a lot about that lately.
What was it that got you to start blogging?
R: It was mostly curiosity really! I had an interest in fashion & street style for a while, mainly stemming from previous ‘picture blogs’ I ran. I remember I bought myself a Macbook and thought I’d better get use out of it so I started writing about things I’m passionate about and that’s still what I do today!
D: Are there any people that influence you the most?
R: Pharrell is the person I look up to the most, I have for as long as I can remember. I had posters of him on my wall when I was growing up and through his music he was the first person who made me believe it was ok to be myself and to be weird. He’ll always be the person I look up to, especially because he’s been so successful in every venture he’s ever taken on.
D: Are there any moments in your blogging journey thus far that stand out?
R: My favourite blog related moment has to be Fashion Week last summer. I was invited to a show by a upcoming designer from India called N&S Gaia and had the chance to go backstage and see all of the prep. It was such a great experience and I’d love to do more of the same.
D: Oh woah that’s so cool!
Are there any online creators you look up to?
R: Any creator who breaks the mould and has something unique about them, is someone I look up to. I’m all for people being a bit left of centre and weird!
D: Any moments in your blogging career that stand out?
R: Again, fashion week is the stand out moment but I’ve had some great experiences working with upcoming brands.
D: What’s your hogwarts house?
R: Aw mate you’re gonna hate me, but I have no idea about Harry Potter.
D: [ Note – I was not ok with this]
Favourite musical artist/band
R: How long have you got?
Music is a huge part of my life so there’s a massive list: The Smiths are the best band ever and if anyone says I’m wrong then we have a problem! I’m really into hip hop so Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Kanye West are some of my favourites. Outside of hip hop I listen to Bon Iver, Foals and The Maccabees quite a lot too!
D: What a list!!
Finally, do you have an all time favourite movie?
R: Favourite movie has to be Superbad! I’m not too big when it comes to films but Superbad is a timeless classic. I love anything Seth Rogen does he’s such funny guy
